Wardrobe Workshop
There are already enough clothes in the world to clothe the next 6 generations. The UK is one of the most wasteful nations, buying and throwing away much more than most others, and the planet cannot afford our profligacy. As the world starts to open up again (if transiently), you may be thinking about what to wear. Rather than looking at what is in the shops, online or otherwise, you could start by shopping your own wardrobe. We're all guilty of buying too much and not wearing things enough, and perhaps not spending enough to make quality, ethical and environmentally friendly purchases because of uncertainty.
How do you do this? Well that's the easy bit, because it is knowledge rather than money that makes you well-dressed. Once you know the colours that suit you, the fabrics and shapes that work, and understand your own personal style, you can edit your wardrobe according to your lifestyle and current trends (if you wish). Fall back in love with the things you have bought, and aim to make more outfits with less clothes. Your bank balance will love you too. |
The 'Wardrobe Doctor' workshop will help you decide what to keep and what to get rid of, and how to manage your outfits, without resorting to the countless media articles telling you which are this season's indispensable items.
The problem with these lists of ‘essentials’ is that they leave out the most important element: YOU. Yves Saint Laurent said ‘the most important thing about a dress is the woman who is wearing it’ – we have different lifestyles and personalities, so what we have in our wardrobes will be different. So, before you go rushing out to buy, remember this: it is not money that makes you well-dressed, it’s understanding. (Dior). You could get together with some friends to book a workshop. You don't need to have had a colour or style analysis, as you will be discovering the tools to enable you to do it, and starting to think it through, rather than doing it there and then. Wardrobe Doctor Workshop: £25 per person for a minimum of 4 people (previous colour analysis is not necessary) |
