look great, feel confident, be yourself

Picture

'Dress shabbily, they notice the dress; dress well, they notice the woman' (Coco Chanel)

It takes 30 seconds to make a first impression that persists for 7 years -
you don't have to be rich, vain or famous to want that impression to be a good one!
Knowing how to dress well is not about buying new clothes, or dressing expensively or fashionably,
but simply understanding the best colours and styles for your colouring, shape, personality and lifestyle.
When you feel confident that you look fabulous, you can express who you are in an instant by what you wear,

IMPORTANT NOTICE - ONLINE SERVICES
During lockdown (and until I think it is safe to work face to face), I am offering online colour analysis, and finding it works very well.

I will need some up to date photographs of you, and any useful information about your current hair colour. You will need somewhere with some good daylight to put a device with a camera and a Zoom connection, and a bit of space for the analysis drapes. Otherwise the session will be carried out as if we are face to face, as you will have the drapes to hold against you (these are quarantined between clients, and posted or delivered to you once we have booked the session).

I will send you the swatch wallet afterwards, and when it is safe to do so, you can come for your makeover and any aspects of the consultation we have been unable to do.

Skincare and make up are available as usual, from me, or via the colour me beautiful website (click here)
Contact me for advice on colour and application, and I can discuss with you via a phone call or video chat.

'Lovely new experience this morning - looked at myself as I passed a mirror and smiled at what I saw. You've given me so much confidence'   (client 2019)

Most of us wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. That's a lot of clothing doing nothing. Meanwhile, the UK is the most wasteful nation, buying more clothes than anyone else, and throwing away more as well. It is estimated that 11 million garments go into landfill every week, and while we are recycling more, the places that receive our recycling are getting so much stuff, that they are now putting it in landfill.  Yes, we should also shop ethically, ensuring we are not supporting exploitation, and giving thought to sustainable fabrics. But perhaps we should also buy less in the first place. Our planet can't afford fast, cheap fashion; neither will it do you any lasting favours - just furnish a wardrobe of clothes you don't wear.
I can show you how to have more outfits with less clothes, buying well, but only once, and ensuring you know how to put together outfits from what you already have. You don't have to compromise on style: knowing what suits you means that you can look good, feel confident, and be yourself, without harming the planet.
Need help with these dilemmas?
  • you are not confident with how you look?
  • you wear too much black (or beige, or blue...)?
  • you feel frumpy or stuck in a rut?
  • your colouring or body shape has changed, and you are not sure what works for you?
  • you have too many clothes, but still seem to have nothing to wear?
  • you often return clothes you have bought?
  • you often buy make up but don't know if it suits you
Picture
Would you like to?
  • save money by knowing how to wear everything in your wardrobe, not just the 20% that you wear 80% of the time.
  • save time by being able to quickly put together an outfit that works.
  • shop faster and more easily, without expensive mistakes
  • buy a small amount of make up in the right colours for you
  • look great, because everything you have suits you.
  • be confident because you look the best version of yourself, always.

‘Compliment coming your way! My dad said he saw you and he said how pretty you were and how clever because red really suited you and you looked amazing – totally unprompted. Mr. Charming!!!’    text received by a colour client following her consultation, who also said 'I can honestly say I have had more compliments in the last few days than I have had for years – all thanks to your great advice'   ND
'thankyou for all you have done...without your skills and knowledge I would still be a dowdy 55 year old.  I now have the confidence to dress quickly and smartly, and I feel alive!'   GG

Here is the news for February

If you have subscribed to my newsletter, you have probably already had a colour consultation (although if anything has changed, you may need an update - scroll down to see). However, you probably have friends and family members you would like to see grow in confidence about how they look. This month the newsletter is for them, rather than for you, so please forward it to anyone you know may be interested.

They are sure to have questions, and likely every question about colour analysis has already been asked many times before. So, this month I thought I'd answer some of these and explain why now, more than ever, is a great time to invest in yourself. Quote 10FEBRUARY21 for £10 discount on a colour consultation, or a gift voucher for consultation. Vouchers are normally valid for one year, but I am being very flexible about expiry dates, given the current circumstances.

If you already know about your colouring, you could use this lockdown time to go back to your palette and the guidance you were given. Explore the colours that suit you, sort out your wardrobe so that everything works, and practise putting clothes together to look your very best self (even in jeans and t shirt). Ask if you get stuck, and I will talk you through.

Here we go with the questions and answers ...

Colour Analysis - Frequently Asked Questions

Picture
Q: "I don't want to be pigeon-holed."
A: A colour consultation with me is more than showing you your colours. I aim to understand you as a person and your style personality. Just because you're the same colouring as Vivienne Westwood, doesn't mean that you have the same need to stand out in a crowd. By understanding you, I can show you how to wear colour.

"Q: You'll tell me I can't wear black."
A: I will never tell you that you can't wear black, or indeed any other colour. But I will show you how to wear it to achieve your best look.

Q: "It's old fashioned to have your colours done."
A: Quite the opposite. Understanding how to wear and combine different colours enables you to build a cohesive, versatile, modern and lifestyle-appropriate wardrobe.

Q: "Isn't that something that they did in the 80s?"
A: Indeed, colour me beautiful has been around for many years! But it's moved on from the dated 80s look. In fact, many of my clients are surprised at how modern my approach to colour is. My Virtual Colour Consultation is one example of how I've stayed relevant and moved with the times.

Q: "I don't have the budget to start my wardrobe all over again."
A: I can show you how to have fewer clothes in your wardrobe but more to wear, and enable you to work with what you already have, rather than throw away and start again. And of course, this helps the environment too.

Q: "Colour Analysis is expensive."
A: Having your colours analysed will prevent you from making expensive shopping mistakes. You only have to look in your own wardrobe to see those unwise purchases. Take a moment to tot up how much you have wasted. I'm confident that the figure will be more than a colour consultation with me. My prices start from £145 for a face-to-face session (when conditions allow); the virtual service price depends on how much we can do online, with the remainder of the consultation following later. I am not going to charge you if I think I can't carry out an analysis.

Colour Analysis - is it for you?

Regardless of anything else, colour can impact how you look, how you feel and how others perceive you. You could be wearing the most beautiful outfit in the world, but if it's in the wrong colour, it will not do you any favours at all.

I see clients from every walk of life, and from every decade. Some may work in a corporate environment, others may be stay-at-home mums/dads or recently retired. But all have the same aim; they want to look good and feel good about themselves. It's very confidence building!

Is Colour Analysis still relevant?

Picture
Our access to fashion and trends has never been more immediate, with daily updates from online magazines, social media and celebrities. It's easy to copy the style of someone you admire, but successfully executing this is another matter. The knowledge from a Colour Consultation will enable you to emulate a look, but with your own personal spin, so that you look great too.

The slow fashion movement is gaining momentum, and this very much aligns with colour me beautiful's own values: buy less, buy better, wear more. I can show you how to make more outfits from your clothes through careful selection of colour, and help you make use of what you already have.

If you don't want to wait, and would prefer an online appointment, this may be possible. Contact me to talk about what you need.

Why not use the seasonal type of analysis?

The seasonal approach can be somewhat restrictive, and often clients had shades in their palette that were not their best. Some clients didn't fit easily into one of the seasonal 'boxes,' and the approach didn't really allow for a global range of colouring. With all of this in mind, colour me beautiful developed a new system based on how colour is actually perceived. This is much more flexible and allows for every individual combination.

Not just what colour to wear, but how to wear colour

Everyone can wear colour, but not every shade of every colour. For example, there will be certain shades of blue that make your eyes sparkle and give you a vibrant, healthier look. But there will also be shades that make you appear dull and tired.

During a colour analysis, you will be shown your very best shades of every colour, and more importantly how to wear these. I will also show you how to 'rescue' shades that are not so good on you. Don't worry, I will never tell you to throw away clothes, but I will show you how to wear them within your colour palette.

You also leave your consultation with a personalised wallet of 42 fabric swatches.

What you wear on your face matters too

As part of a Colour Consultation, I will show you an easy but effective make-up routine in colours that complement your skin tone and features. You can be confident that I will only let you purchase cosmetics that suit you, so even your make-up bag gets a make-over!

Make-up is available to purchase from me directly.

Time for an update?

If you had your colours analysed a few years ago, you might notice that some shades in your wallet don't look as good on you anymore. As we age, our skin tone can cool down, our eyes become less bright, and of course, our hair changes colour. Time for a Colour Review!

I will re-assess your colours in a one-hour session, which includes make-up application and a review of your colour palette. Swatches in your wallet can be removed and added, and additional swatch cards can be purchased.

Buy well, buy once, buy less
- your bank balance will be happier, as will the planet.

I will help you translate this season's key trends into your wardrobe in a way that makes you look and feel fabulous. One or two pieces will update your wardrobe, and if you get colour and style right, will give you value for money in years to come.

Get in touch today to book your appointment, whether you need a review of your colouring, a complete start from scratch, help with sorting your wardrobe, a gift for someone else, or a FREE make up or skincare refresh.
