workshop your wardrobe
Many of us dream of having a smaller wardrobe of lovely clothing where everything fits, suits us and expresses who we are, and where each item co-ordinates with several others. I would add further to that already tall order, that each piece is beautifully made, and will last, and has been produced ethically and environmentally well.
How do you do this? Well, it's easier than you might think. Once you know the colours that suit you, the fabrics and shapes that work, and understand your own personal style, you can edit your wardrobe according to your lifestyle and current trends (if you wish). Fall back in love with the things you have bought, and aim to make more outfits with less clothes. Your bank balance will love you too.

'fashion is what you are offered four times a year; style is what you choose to wear' (Lauren Hutton)
The Wardrobe Workshop will help you decide what to keep and what to get rid of, and how to manage your outfits, without resorting to the countless media articles telling you which are this season's indispensable items. The problem with these lists of ‘essentials’ is that they leave out the most important element: YOU. Yves Saint Laurent said ‘the most important thing about a dress is the woman who is wearing it’ – we have different lifestyles and personalities, so what we have in our wardrobes will be different. So, before you go rushing out to buy, remember this: it is not money that makes you well-dressed, it’s understanding. (Dior). It's actually simple to achieve, with the right knowledge and a little application.

We have all seen the TV programmes and read the articles about 30 item capsule wardrobes, and the 'must have' pieces for this season. However, if you have been buying clothes for more than 10 years, you probably already have way more than 35 pieces (and it's daft to get rid of something you love). Furthermore, the 'must haves' take no account of your colouring, body shape, personality and lifestyle. Rather than trying to fit your unique self into this season’s marketing, think more realistically:

My 3 keys to a wearable wardrobe are joy, utility and sustainability, which together open the door to the simplicity of getting dressed easily and confidently.

- Use what you know about your lifestyle, body shape, colouring, and personal style to audit what you have
- Understand the concept of wardrobe ‘heroes’ and ‘workhorses’ and use this to make outfits that work for your personality and colouring
