stylist, sixty (and counting)...about me
I have had a few career changes, but the common thread has been about empowering women. Image consultancy may strike you as frivolous (most of us are not going to be on a magazine cover, and we would probably agree that our culture is unhealthily obsessed with youth and physical perfection). However, how we perceive ourselves through the eyes of others is an important part of how we see ourselves, and self-confidence is the best outfit you can wear. Almost every client I work with finds that feeling good about how you look opens the door into a world of living confidently. With the training and support of Colour Me Beautiful, I offer a complete image service which will help you to look good, feel confident, and be yourself. |
I am passionate about the need to recognise the climate emergency, and the changes we need to make in our behaviour. Shopping less is a good place to start, but not having to compromise individual style, while not damaging the planet is a win for both sides. My consultations are about having more outfits with fewer clothes and understanding how to use everything you already have: if you have to buy, do it well and do it once!
my colour journey
Colouring may change through time for a variety of reasons. Your colour palette reflects your appearance, so this changes too. This is my colour journey, with some notes about how I harmonised my clothes with my colouring without buying a new wardrobe of clothes each time - it's all about understanding why your palette is as it is, and how to make it work for you.

In the first two pictures, the most obvious aspect of my colouring is the contrast between dark hair and my eyes, which are blue/green/grey/hazel/gold. The second aspect is the warmth of my hair and skin tone. This makes my dominant Clear, with warmth as a secondary trait. I used to wear black, navy and dark brown with bright contrast like orange, red or kelly/lime green

A few years later, my hair was lighter, so I was losing the contrast between hair and eye colour. I didn't want to lose the brightness of my look, so my brilliant hairdresser added extra warmth to my (lighter) hair. With my still very warm skintone, warmth was the most obvious feature of my colouring, so my palette was Warm and clear: yellow-based colours with contrast and brightness.

Black is a bit strong for this more medium depth colouring, so I stored the black clothing, gave warmth to the navy by wearing it with the oranges, warm reds and warm greens I already had, and adding some rust and amber for variety. The browns from my Clear palette were then front and centre as my absolute best neutral against the bright accents.
