here is the news for april
There is a common misconception that the undertone of our skin doesn’t change as we age. Certainly, under the seasonal analysis, you remain in the same palette you were born with, and never move out (although the part of it that works for you may change). However, the Colour Me Beautiful tonal system is much more flexible, and recognises that as we get older, our hair loses pigmentation, our eyes become more muted, and our skin becomes more transparent.
Colour Me Beautiful MD, Cliff Bashforth, is a great example of someone who has transitioned between palettes. I’ve included the seasonal description in the above image for comparison, but, of course, under this system, you don’t actually move from your original analysis. So, Cliff would still be classified as someone with a warm skin tone, which he certainly isn’t any more.

If your colours are starting to look a little ‘off’, it may be time for a colour review. You’ll know when it happens, as you will start to see your clothes rather than you when you look in the mirror. It's especially obvious if you are moving from a palette with warmth in it to needing more cooler shades (or if your original analysis was as a seasonal Autumn or Spring).

a very useful accessory
A scarf is the perfect accessory, especially at this time of year when in many parts, it can be chilly. Of course, a scarf is also fabulous for adding interest to a plain outfit, particularly the spring favourite, a trench coat.
My colleague, Gail Walsh is wearing a silk scarf in shades of purple, teal, pewter and soft white, which are all universal colours that everyone can wear. Colours next to your face have to work for you, as there is no way of 'rescuing' them with something else, so a scarf is the one item in your wardrobe that has to be right.
ohhh, it’s ombré
Ombré is an excellent choice for those who have a 'softer', look. Bright, bold colours can overwhelm some people, in fact, you see the clothes before you see the person.
The Soft palette is for those who have little contrast between their skin tone, eye colour and hair (often dark blonde/light brown hair). I always recommend dressing tonally to harmonise with this, so Ombré is an easy win - not only are the colours muted, but they are also tonal as well.
wide leg worries
One length certainly does not fit all (footwear, that is)! There’s no denying that wide-leg trousers are still having their moment, and there’s a style for everyone, but a word of caution: think carefully about your footwear before making a purchase.
Skinnies and straight legs are more versatile, as they can be interchanged between high heels and flat shoes without the length of the trouser being too much of an issue. Wide legs, not so much. No one wants unintentional ankle swingers or floor sweepers. So, think about the occasions you’re likely to be wearing them and choose your footwear accordingly.

going nuts about fashion
We're seeing pistachio everywhere right now, but it can be an awkward colour to wear for some. If you have a warm skin tone, then it's likely that pistachio will work for you, provided you stick to a few guidelines about the other aspects of your colouring. Those with a more delicate look, such as blondes and light brown hair, can wear pistachio as a neutral and have fun combining it with other colours from your palette. If you have a stronger look (dark hair or vivid redheads), you may find that pistachio on its own lacks something—depth! So, combine it with deeper shades from your palette to balance out your look.
Anyone with a cool undertone will no doubt struggle with the yellow undertone in pistachio. But don't despair - mint is a great alternative. The freshness of this colour will lighten and brighten your skin tone. Of course, the same rules above apply!

can you wear black?
Black has its place, and I spend time with every single one of my clients discussing how they can wear it, and I don't tell anyone they can't. There is always a way, but there are so many other colours that are more flattering!
Softs, Lights and Warms will find the most difficulty with black. Try choosing an alternative dark neutral from your palette, or if you have to wear black, chosse an open neckline and a fabric that is translucent or textured. Ruffles and frills will also help - anything that softens its look.

colour me flawless
Have you discovered Morning Light Foundation? It's a technically advanced treatment foundation that provides a flawless and natural finish. It contains a light-diffusing complex that deflects light from the surface of the skin, thereby minimizing the visibility of fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration. Contact me to try it out and find your shade.

don't miss out !
I am working with a hugely successful beauty consultant, who is an experienced makeup artist, to deliver colour and makeup workshops. I will dip into colour, and Lynda will demonstrate and teach how to apply your makeup (in colours prescribed by me for each person).
The first date we advertised sold out in a day, and there are just 3 places left for April 26th, so don't delay if you'd like to come |
more about makeup
So you know the colours that suit you, but would you like to learn a bit more from a professional about applying your makeup? Lynda and I could put together a workshop concentrating just on makeup application, perhaps a basic application, and how to turn it into an evening look. Please let me know if you would be interested in this!
Alternatively, if you would just like to try out some makeup colours, a makeup colour assessment is £20, and the cost is fully redeemable against products. |
please tell me!
Have you had any of my services? I would love a few words from you, perhaps about what you have learned, how your thinking has changed, what you do differently, or even if you just enjoyed the experience and why (or anything else).
I am rebuilding my business after quite a while of not being able to do very much, and it would be great to have some testimonials to use on my website and social media. Obviously, if something was wrong, get in touch and I will try to put it right! You can email me here

reduce, rewear, repair, resell, recycle
Most of us wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. That's a lot of clothing doing nothing. Meanwhile, the UK is the most wasteful nation, buying more clothes than anyone else, and throwing away more as well. It is estimated that 11 million garments go into landfill every week, and while we are recycling more, the places that receive our recycling are getting so much stuff, that they are now putting it in landfill. Yes, we should also shop ethically, ensuring we are not supporting exploitation, and giving thought to sustainable fabrics. But perhaps we should also buy less in the first place. The fashion industry (and not just fast fashion) is a major contributor to greenhouse gases, and it won't do you any lasting favours either - just furnish a wardrobe of clothes you don't wear.
I can help you translate this season's key trends into your wardrobe in a way that makes you look and feel fabulous. One or two pieces will update your wardrobe, and if you get the colour and style right, will give you value for money in years to come.
