here is the news for july ...
As you probably know, I live, talk and breathe colour and never get bored of this subject. So this month’s newsletter explores some of the endless possibilities and vibrant energy that colour can bring to us.
colour matters

Colour near your face is reflected upwards, casting either flattering tones or dark shadows, depending on the harmony between the colour itself and your skin, eye and hair colour. When you wear shades in balance with your colouring, your skin will look radiant and your eyes will appear brighter; if you wear colours that aren’t flattering, they can cast shadows across your face, making you look tired and unwell.

confident choices

Understanding how colour works on you will bring you immense joy - feeling great because you are confident you look the best version of you!
What I don’t want is for you to look as if you’ve stepped right out of a 1980s consultation. It's not about bright colours and being glamorous. I aim for you to feel confident in combining the colours you have (and being able to choose well when you need to shop), so I give you guidelines to follow, as well as your swatches.
For example, someone with little contrast between hair, skin and eyes will look amazing when wearing medium depth colours tonally (taupe and jade for instance). On the other hand, someone with a high contrast between their hair, skin and eyes will always look their best in contrasting colours (light grey and emerald green for instance).

the tonal system
|
Colour Me Beautiful uses a modern system based on how the eye perceives colour (based on the work of Albert Munsell in the early 20th century, which underlies every industry that uses colour). The Tonal approach offers a more flexible and modern way of analysing colour, compared to the older Seasonal method, which you may remember from the 1980s. The beauty of the Munsell system is that it can be used to describe any person’s colouring, which is far more difficult when using seasons, as they do not translate globally. When assessing your colouring, I consider all three properties of colour independently (undertone, depth and clarity), so all combinations are possible.
|
I also show you 'how to wear' colour, rather than being prescriptive by restricting your colour choices - even how to wear black, whatever your colouring type. Colour should bring you joy, so even if your favourite colour is outside your palette, I will show you a way.
the neutral zone
A versatile wardrobe usually includes core pieces in neutral colours that you can build on all year round. These are often investment buys, where you may spend more money - think jackets, coats and even knitwear.
It follows that you should wear your most flattering neutral shades to look your best. When you understand your best type of colours and how to wear them, it is simple to put together some basic pieces. I have lots of neutral recommendations to show you during a colour consultation. You will leave brimming with ideas on how to wear clothes that you already own, so that you can start to sort out your wearable wardrobe. |
popping colour
Neutral shades are great (and for some may be all they want), but colour can be where a consultation really comes to life. I can introduce you to your best reds, best greens, best blues, best pinks and so on.
As you may be wearing these next to your face, it is important to select flattering shades. Take red, for example; some people will look good in cooler berry shades of red, whilst others will suit orange-reds. Remember, just because your friend looks great in a certain shade, doesn’t mean you will! But what I can say is that there will be a perfect red for you. Image c/o CMB consultant, Sarah Harris |
makeup matters too
|
What you wear on your face really does matter (for example, a rose pink blusher will look painted on and harsh on someone with a warm skin tone). During a consultation, I can show you your best makeup shades. You may own some of these already, but you will have the opportunity to try(and buy) cosmetics from the Colour Me Beautiful range - be prepared to be wowed! Sometimes, just a couple of things make a huge difference

colour influence
|
Wearing colour influences those around us, because different colours can affect moods, perceptions and reactions. Bright, vibrant colours might make you seem more approachable and energetic, whilst deeper colours can give off a more serious or professional vibe. Colours can also evoke certain emotions or associations, eg. red for passion and blue for calmness.
So, the colours you wear can change how others see and respond to you. Choose the right shade for you, and say what you want without speaking! |
accessorise with colour
![Picture](/uploads/4/0/2/3/40238487/editor/2024webjuly6.png?1719905885)
Spicing up your accessories with colour is like giving your wardrobe a fun makeover every season - a colourful new scarf or statement necklace can breathe new life into an old outfit.
Don't overlook bags and shoes in trend colours to keep your look fresh and relevant. This is also a great way to make use of a colour you love, but don't want near your face because it doesn't love you so much.

Have you had any of my services? I would love a few words from you, perhaps about what you have learned, how your thinking has changed, what you do differently, or even if you just enjoyed the experience and why (or anything else).
I am rebuilding my business after quite a while of not being able to do very much, and it would be great to have some testimonials to use on my website and social media. Obviously, if something was wrong, get in touch and I will try to put it right! You can email me here

reduce, rewear, repair, resell, recycle
Most of us wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. That's a lot of clothing doing nothing. Meanwhile, the UK is the most wasteful nation, buying more clothes than anyone else, and throwing away more as well. It is estimated that 11 million garments go into landfill every week, and while we are recycling more, the places that receive our recycling are getting so much stuff, that they are now putting it in landfill. Yes, we should also shop ethically, ensuring we are not supporting exploitation, and giving thought to sustainable fabrics. But perhaps we should also buy less in the first place. The fashion industry (and not just fast fashion) is a major contributor to greenhouse gases, and it won't do you any lasting favours either - just furnish a wardrobe of clothes you don't wear.
I can help you translate this season's key trends into your wardrobe in a way that makes you look and feel fabulous. One or two pieces will update your wardrobe, and if you get the colour and style right, will give you value for money in years to come.
